IRB

East End SLSC is very proud to have such a fantastic IRB section to our club. The dedication to the Lifeguard movement is shown in the involvement that the members have within the club and community.

IRBs (Inflatable Rescue Boats) play a very important part in the Lifeguard movement by providing a quick and effective way of providing preventative measures and rescue services during patrol hours (over 60% of all rescues are preformed by IRBs).

IRBs are also used to provide water safety during both Junior and Senior Surf Life Saving competitions, provide water safety for external water events (e.g. sea and lake swims, triathlons), and also is used during water based search and rescues.

To become part of this dynamic, fun team of Lifeguards, Lifeguards must complete the following:
As a patient:
Hold current refreshed Lifeguard Award

As a Crewperson:
Hold current refreshed Lifeguard Award
Hold IRB Crew Award

As an IRB Driver:
Hold current refreshed Lifeguard Award
Hold current refreshed IRB Driver Award

To keep the skills of IRB crews honed SLSNZ hold regional and national competitions, these events are awesome and although each crew (IRB Driver, Crewperson and Patient) compete on their own, there is a real team focus as boats need to be held at the start line, patients need to be looked after, motors and boats need to be looked after, crews need to be feed and hydrated, and during the competition each crew that gets through to the finals earns points towards the crew winning their section and points for the whole team with the goal to come away with Top Club.

It is with immense pride to be able to say that our IRB team works as a team, and helps each other, one way that this is reflected is East End for the last two seasons running holds the Top Club titles of Taranaki, North Island and National Champions.
