About Us

East End Surf Life Saving Club supplies a community service to the public of New Plymouth by voluntarily providing Life Guards at East End Beach.

The Club’s primary function as Life Guards is to prevent death by drowning at East End Beach with our secondary functions being:

To educate the public in safe open water practices.

To facilitate the ongoing development of appropriate skills within our membership.

To provide sporting and leisure opportunities for all club members.

To promote healthy and safe recreational use of East End Beach.

The Club is based at East End Beach on New Plymouth’s Tasman Sea coastline.  Our beach is a typical black sand west coast open surf beach exposed to the prevailing south-westerly wind and prone to changeable ocean swells and currents.
But East End is by far the safest of New Plymouth’s open ocean beaches thanks to a combination of the efficient lifeguard patrols provided by the Club and the unique geographical features afforded by its location.

Being located in a central part of New Plymouth, East End Beach is easily accessed by the public and has been a favoured recreational area for generations of New Plymouth people.

Consistent with its favourable location and its popularity with family groups, we promote East End as the “friendly, family beach”.  Our public relations are geared to delivering a high quality, user friendly service.

In 2008 East End was joint holder of the award for being Taranaki’s best beach patrol club, the award winner for being Taranaki’s best surf sports competition club and overall winner as Taranaki’s top surf lifesaving club.
